Active and passive insufficiency can be hard concepts to grasp. In this video I explain how biarticular muscles literally "run out of room" when passively lengthening or actively shortening. In active insufficiency, the muscle has maximally shortened and actin & myosin are literally losing purchase on each other. In passive insufficiency, the structure of the muscle (or neuromuscular "tightness") does not allow it to stretch further. This lecture is part of a free, 25-video series covering every facet of structural anatomy. Don’t just memorize human anatomy, master it: https://bit.ly/32kJ5zw TIME STAMPS 00:00 - Passive insufficiency of wrist extensors 00:50 - Active insufficiency of wrist flexors 01:30 - Comparison between active & passive insufficiency of forearm muscles 01:50 - Characteristics of biarticular muscles 02:18 - Passive insufficiency of hamstrings 03:23 - Active insufficiency of rectus femoris 04:15 - Wrap-up & outtro #kinesiologyconcepts #activeandpassiveinsufficiency #DrGoodin — Hey there kinesiology friends!
