Prime Minister Mark Carney, Governor General Mary Simon and the leaders of the federal opposition parties in Parliament attended a vigil on Friday in Tumbler Ridge, B.C., honouring the victims of Tuesday’s mass shooting. "I know that nothing I can say will bring your children home... But I, the leader of the opposition, the leader of all the federal parties, wanted you to hear... the Canadians are with you and we will always be with you," Carney said. "There are no Liberals, no Democrats, Greens, or Bloc Québécois. We are all, as we were in that plane together, mothers and fathers," Leader of the Opposition Pierre Poilievre said, adding that he was heartbroken. On Wednesday, the RCMP identified the eight victims of the deadly shooting: five students of Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, aged between 12 and 13, a 39-year-old teacher at the school, and the mother and stepbrother of the 18-year-old shooter Jesse Van Rootselaar.
