Shree Lakshmi Narayan Temple, Kuala Lumpur is one of the oldest and most prominent Hindu temples in Malaysia, dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. Located in the heart of the city along Jalan Kasipillay, the temple serves as a vibrant centre for spiritual, cultural, and social activities. Built in the early 1980s by the North Indian Hindu community, it beautifully showcases traditional North Indian temple architecture, featuring ornate carvings, colourful domes, and a majestic sanctum. The main deities, Lord Lakshmi Narayan (an incarnation of Lord Vishnu with Goddess Lakshmi), are worshipped daily with great devotion. The temple also houses shrines dedicated to other Hindu deities such as Lord Ganesha, Lord Shiva, and Goddess Durga. Festivals like Deepavali, Navaratri, and Krishna Janmashtami are celebrated with grandeur, drawing large crowds of devotees and tourists alike. The temple’s serene atmosphere offers a peaceful retreat from the city’s busy life. It also serves as a hub for charitable and educational activities, reflecting the values of compassion and community service. Regular bhajans, satsangs, and cultural programs foster unity among devotees. The temple’s intricate artistry and spiritual ambiance make it a must-visit landmark in Kuala Lumpur, representing the rich heritage and devotion of the Hindu community in Malaysia. Close to 90% of Hindus live in the Indian subcontinent but the effect of Hinduism can be seen all over the world. This series is a humble initiative to explore the spread of Hindu culture beyond the shores of India by presenting various Hindu temples throughout the world and taking the viewers through the history of each temple against a Carnatic music background.
