The WALL that Divided Britain

Welcome to this weeks video, the Story of Wansdyke. This week we take a deep dive into the Wansdyke, a wall, a border, or.... who knows. It spans across a large section south Britain. until recently much of what we know about it was through various antiquarians. But now we have, thanks to Dr Alex langlands, an approximate date that will allow us to piece together this mystey. A Notable thanks to: 1. Dr Alex langlands and his Team (Whilst I have not worked directly with them, their work clearly has helped the conclusions drawn in this film). 2. Alan Soldat. His book, was much of a source for this as any other. A highly recommended read here: https://www.hobnobpress.co.uk/books/p... 3. Pat from Shaw Farm for her time and allowing me to film on site. 4. Hedley for at least 50% of the drone footage used! 5. Usual notices: 1. We are not historians. We enjoy researching and learning, and with that we enjoy sharing our journeys with you. That said, sources for information often listed below with credits. 2. Corrections. Whilst we make every attempt to not include any errors, research, and piecing stories together from dozens of sources sometimes leads to one or two. I will note here if any are found: Errors 1. I never know whether to use CE or AD etc. I am slowly converting to BCE and CE (As seemingly most archaeologists now do) so you'll note a transition of that in this video. 2. Bensington not Bessington. 3. Whilst at the Roman Road section I kept saying "WAN" not "WON" 4. Similary I suggest on occasion this is "The Wansdyke". Its name is just "Wansdyke". 5. Stukeley. I do love William Stukeley. He gave us so much. So forgive me picking holes on occasion, lets face it... I have already typed out 5 mistakes in this video!
