Loewe is easily one of the most influential brands of the last 10 years thanks to creative director Jonathan Anderson. But did you know that for almost 20 years before he arrived, their finances were best described as "only marginally unprofitable" and LVMH had long sought a buy out. In fact, these were some of the worst years in the entire history of Loewe, because before the LVMH acquisition had had 150 years of incredible accolades and growth even including an early royal warrant from 1905. Fortunately for us, today those 17 years of losses are a distant memory as for the last decade we have seen the brand grow from strength to strength under Jonathan Anderson's watchful eye to where now it is one of the most anticipated shows each and every season. Of course, no success comes without difficulties, but for the most part Loewe has been the solid ground of creative fashion giving inspiration crafted from a love of art and fabrication that distills the brand to that one word of 'craft' that can summarise the history of the brand so succinctly. From its foundation of Madrid's famous leather craftsman, to crafting through the war, to Javier Carvajal's store design, to Francisco Ferrer Bartolomé's windows, to the Loewe Craft Prize and even today where they share their crafting process on social media. Loewe is craft.
