A Swainson's thrush (Catharus ustulatus) singing in the Squamish River estuary. This song, and that of the hermit thrush, are two of my favourite bird calls. I mention these two species because both of them have a call which sounds like it is echoing through the forest, yet it is the bird itself that is making the echoing sound with its voice. As I've filmed birds in the tree tops lately, I am amazed at how many insects are flying around in the upper canopy of the trees. There's been virtually none to speak of at ground level.
