The Ministry of Education in Mufumbwe District says pupil attendance has significantly improved following the government's decision to halt illegal gold mining activities in the Kikonge area. This development comes after the government deployed police officers to the area to stop illegal mining operations, which had earlier claimed the lives of some miners. Mufumbwe District Education Board Secretary, Monica Malichi, says schools are recording increased attendance, particularly among male pupils who had previously abandoned learning in favour of gold mining.
