The record which is playing in the video was the last recording made by Wiera Gran for Polish Odeon before the outbreak of the WW II. In August 1991 it was offered as a gift to Jerzy Płaczkiewicz, who visited the artist living then in Paris. The first song – “Gdy miłość zapuka do drzwi’ (When Love Will Knock At the Door) was presented by him, as a direct digital transfer, on his YT channel as early as 2007 and became popular immediately on internet, appearing subsequently as a copy on other YT channels. Today, this record returns to the channel of jurek46pink, this time, however, together with the song from the flip side – “Księżyc i ja” (A Moon and Me). Played on the Dual turntable with Shure cartridge and filmed “live”- sound and picture - by the camera. ........................................ One remark to record collectors, enthusiasts and shellac devotees: this record, as well as the other Odeon which the author received directly from Wiera Gran – “Tango Notturno / Tango Portugalskie” – look atypical and even strange, in comparison with those discs which were produced by Polish Odeon and sold in late 1930’s. They both are much thicker, they are heavier and the shellac material also appears to be different: although being in excellent condition, their surface is neither smooth nor evenly flat. More to that, the record being a subject of this video has a wrong label on one side and bears an extra white sticker with a writing in red, made personally by the artist, which reads: “KSIĘŻYC I JA – SZLENGEL – WIERA GRAN - Ork. Gerta” . All that indicates that these two records were not meant for official sale and quite possibly were pressed secretly during the war. Nevertheless, the present recordings were announced in the Polish Odeon catalogue 1939 – June/July appendix. The first song is originally a French waltz, while the second one is an Italian tango. Both Polish lyrics versions were made by Władysław Szlengel. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
