Part one of two videos. I am converting an A+ 1098 Mini engine with a BMW K series twin cam bike cylinder head and dry pulleys. This is a totally 'from scratch' build as I had no engine to start with so various assemblies have been sourced from eBay and the usual Mini parts suppliers. Basically its using: 1098 +100 flat top pistons New Verto 190 mm clutch assembly and flywheel My old 1098 crank, reground. Cooper S front pulley & damper All balanced of course Latest Rover Rod Change / Pot Joint gearbox which I have completely rebuilt My old 1098 crank, reground. Very 2nd hand 998 short engine from which I only used rods, camshaft (to drive oil pump and 'distributor'), front plate and block NOS flywheel housing (rare) Ex Metro (oops) clutch cover Just finished the first 'Dry Build' after getting the block back from engineers to start setting out external oil feed and drain pipes and check the BMW wiring runs (again) etc before stripping down for final deep clean and painting before reassembly so I thought I would add a video of where the project is at. People have done 1275 (up to 1380 full race) engines but I think this is the first 1100. The intention is to build the unit as a good torquey road use engine from as many original (Mini & BMW) parts with some creative thinking (like fitting the BMW HE sensors inside a Lucas distributor) where at all possible to keep costs down. I must note invaluable help from the very understanding excellence of Brian at Randall Engineering! https://www.banderandall.co.uk/ Lets see if I succeed.
