Combined artificial iris and lens to treat traumatic aphakia and iris damage

Here I demonstrate my technique for anterior segment reconstruction in an eye with traumatic aphakia and iris damage. First, I size the customised iris from Human Optics and then create a pocket for the lens haptics. In addition, I suture the haptics to the iris using 10-0 prolene and pre-place the goretex sutures. Going to the host eye, I perform a conjunctival peritomy, scleral tunnel and incisions for the AC maintainer as well as sclerostomies. The goretex sutures are pulled through and the iris/lens complex is then inserted and the sutures tied off and cut. All the wounds are secured and the case is completed with subconjunctival antibiotics and steroids. The patient had a very good cosmetic and visual outcome.
