India consumes around 31.3 million tons of LPG every year, and nearly 87% of it is used in households for cooking. One of the world’s most important energy routes, the Strait of Hormuz, has been heavily affected, causing delays and disruptions in oil and gas shipments heading to countries like India. The Government of India has announced that domestic LPG cylinders used in household kitchens will be given first priority to ensure that cooking fuel remains available for families. Companies such as Indian Oil Corporation and Bharat Petroleum have also been directed to increase focus on LPG production to prevent a larger shortage.
