The Penobscot double bow design cannot reduce draw weight like a modern compound bow with let off, but it can lower the rate at which the draw weight increases. This results in a comfortable to shoot bow which stores a lot of energy for how much work it is to draw. The trade off is bulkiness and a number of possible issues resulting from the two additional strings. When I try this design again I’ll use a shortbow with much more reflex for superior string angles. I used a Z-splice with titebond II to join the billets for the longbow. Any PVA wood glue works, although epoxies like smooth-on are a much more reliable choice for higher poundage bows. If you’re having trouble getting a good fit between the spliced pieces, try steaming or boiling and then clamping the splice before gluing. Here are some links that may help with splicing. http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/in... https://redhawk55.wordpress.com/2010/... If you have any ideas for unconventional bow builds, let me know in the comments. My crazy goal for the channel is to make a bow from one of the oak logs preserved in the beaver dam. I know there’s good bow wood in there. Please let me know what other unusual materials you’d like to see me turn into a shooter.
