(20 Apr 2004) APTN Jerusalem, 20 April 2004 1. Various newspapers headlines discussing restriction on Vanunu's movements APTN Ashkelon, 19 April 2004 2. Various adoptive parents of Vanunu coming out of prison after visiting him APTN - NO ACCESS ISRAEL Tel Aviv, 19 April 2004 3. SOUNDBITE: (English) Meir Vanunu, Brother of Mordechai: "He feels that the persecution and harassment is continuing. And he doesn't want to be here anymore, he wants to leave straight from prison and go overseas, that's what he wants. He wants to start his life as a free man. Being here in Israel with the hostility that was built through the years with the media is not freedom." APTN Tel Aviv, 19 April 2004 4. Pan from Tel Aviv street to US embassy 5. Pan from street near US embassy to beach APTN - NO ACCESS ISRAEL Tel Aviv, 19 April 2004 6. SOUNDBITE: (English) Meir Vanunu, Brother of Mordechai: "I think they are outrageous (the restrictions). I mean, silencing a man for 17-and-a-half years - 12 years in very severe solitary confinement conditions with a very serious effect - and then coming now to put him, if you like, in a larger prison - putting him in restrictions which are controlled by the secret services. So instead of freeing him from this effect of (having the) secret services on top of his back all these years, this is going to continue for the next 12 months." APTN Jerusalem, Knesset, 20 April 2004 7. Set-up Efrain Sneh, Labor member of Foreign and Defence Committee: 8. SOUNDBITE: (English) Efrain Sneh, Labor member of Foreign and Defence Committee: "There are all the indications that Mr Vanunu after being released from jail is going to try at least to harm our interests, to harm our security more than he did in the past. That's why he spent such a long time in jail. So if these are his intentions, we have to take all the precautions to defend ourselves. He can inflict great damage on our country and we have to prevent it." 9. SOUNDBITE: (English) Ran Cohen, Yahad member of Foreign and Defence Committee: "I'm not afraid that he has a very very nowadays (current) knowledge about the nuclear possibilities of Israel." 10. Long shot Foreign and Defence Committee meeting APTN Jaffa - 20 April 2004 11. British actress Susannah York and other Vanunu supporters preparing 12. SOUNDBITE (English) Susannah York, British actress: "Well of course I feel tremendous relief and gladness that's Mordechai's imprisonment is finally at an end. I feel anxious of course about his future. I feel good in a sense that I know that Mordechai himself is looking forward not backward, he is looking forward to beginning his new life, so I'm very supportive." 13. Long shot apartment unit STORYLINE: World anti-nuclear weapons activists continued to head for Ashkelon on Tuesday to greet Israeli whistleblower Mordechai Vanunu on completion of his 18-year prison sentence, but Israeli officials were taking steps to limit his access to them and other foreigners. Several activists arrived on Monday, two days before Vanunu's scheduled release from the Shikma prison in the southern seaside city. They were planning to meet at the prison later, but they will get no more than a glimpse of the former nuclear technician when he is released. The Israeli Defence Ministry officially issued late on Monday a list of severe restrictions on the 50 year old and Israeli Interior Minister Avraham Poraz signed an order banning him from leaving the country for one year.
