The Epidermis

This skin is a very organized yet complex organ system. Hopefully after watching this video you will become more familiar with the different cellular layers of the epidermis. When learning about skincare, you may hear terms like "the skin barrier" and the "dermal-epidermal junction", etc. Understanding the layers of the epidermis and the role they play. may make it easier to understand how skincare products and dermatologic procedures effect the skin. In summary the epidermis is comprised of (from top to bottom): stratum corner (the barrier) stratum lucid stratum granulosum (the cells that give rise to the barrier) stratum spinosum stratum basale I earned my Medical Degree from UC Irvine and completed my residency in Dermatology at UCLA. Upon completing my residency, I joined the full-time faculty at UCLA as a Clinical Instructor and Professor in Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery. I then went on to complete advanced fellowship training in Dermatologic Surgery at UC Davis and Cosmetic Dermatology at the Laser and Skin Surgery Center of Northern California with world-renowned expert, Dr. Suzanne Kilmer. After fellowship, I was appointed the Director of Dermatologic Surgery at the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of Northern California where I remained active in clinical trials and have been on the forefront of the latest advances in aesthetics and dermatology. As an Orange County native, I love the SoCal community and currently enjoy being a Dermatologist in Newport Beach, CA. My areas of expertise include cosmetic dermatology with a focus on injectable neuromodulators (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin), as well as dermal fillers (Juvederm, Voluma, Volbella, Vollure, Sculptra, Restylane, Belotero, and Radiesse). In addition, I travel nationally and internationally where I teach other physicians injection techniques and about the latest advances in dermatology. I am highly-trained in the use of lasers and energy-based devices to treat all aspects of photoaging, including fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity, brown spots and facial vessels. I offer a comprehensive approach to body contouring with the use of minimally-invasive procedures. In addition, I specialize in Dermatologic Surgery including Mohs micrographic surgery, blepharoplasty, skin cancer excisions, sclerotherapy, surgical earlobe repair and cosmetic tattoo excisions.
