A dodgy quality video excerpt on the subject of dodgy managers and other unsavoury aspects of the music business. Interviewed are Mike Evans from the Musician's Union and Dave Pegg, bass player with Fairport Convention and also at the time of recording, with Jethro Tull. This is part of a 1986 edition of Central Weekend (Central Television). "The first Central Weekend item is a Roger Cook report about financial rip-offs in the music industry. The item opens with archive (BBC) and stills of the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Cook interviews Experience bass player Noel Redding at his home in Ireland. Redding explains how the business worked in the 1960s when he was on a small wage of £15 a week with all money being collected by his management team of Chas Chandler and Michael Jeffery. Redding has for many years being trying to trace the money which it is alleged Jeffery (who died in 1973) siphoned off to the Bahamas. "We see Redding at home and playing music in a pub with his girl friend. Redding also alleges that his bass parts have been removed from some reissues to again avoid paying him any money. Cook then interviews Chas Chandler about the financial situation and he alleges that his signature was forged on contracts by Jeffery and also suggests that Jeffery was using the missing money to pay for mercenaries to invade the island of Haiti. Redding also alleges that he was swindled by his second management team of Robert Patterson and John Brewer over an album deal for the Noel Redding Band in the 1970s. Cook confronts Patterson on a street in London about the allegations. We also see clips from a Gerry Rafferty promo film as the singer-song writer also alleges lost money in a Patterson and Brewer deal. "Back in the studio Cook talks to the former rock organiser for the Musicians Union, Mike Evans; Dave Pegg who played bass for Jethro Tull; Gordon Campbell who is a lecturer in Music Management; Noel Redding; and members of Central’s band of the year, ‘School’, including drummer Stuart Russell who are just starting off in the business." https://www.macearchive.org/films/cen... Unfortunately, this extract is all I have of what sounds like a very interesting program.
