This was the first game of the 2019 Cook Grandfather-Father-Son Baseball Roadtrip. The focus of this roadtrip is to enjoy the final season of Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, but we decided to get one game in at Minute Maid Park as well. It was an interesting “day.” It started with Monday night red-eye flight from Seattle to Dallas-Fort Worth followed by a 4-hour drive to Houston. We were able to check into our hotel by 10am and got in a nice swim in the pool. We then headed out for an awesome BBQ lunch at Jackson Street BBQ, right next to Minute Maid Park. After lunch, we walked around the stadium and played catch for several hours. It was massively hot and humid. Unfortunately, about half an hour before gates opened, we saw a sign that said no backpacks in the stadium. This lead to the ultimately not-great decision for me to run about 2 miles round trip to a CVS to get a draw string bag that I’d be able to take into the stadium. That worked out fine and the bag came in handy, but I got way too overheated and ultimately felt very crummy for the next 15 hours or so, which was no fun. As for the game, it was all Astros. They won 15-1 and could do no wrong. Justin Verlander still decided to have a very Justin Verlander like attitude and get kicked out of the game, which prevented him for getting a complete game shutout.
