This Documentary aired on public television in 2018 Christopher Malpass and his younger brother Taylor have been singing together since before they could talk. They count Elvis Presley as an early influence. They grew up in Goldsboro, in eastern North Carolina, where they first performed at school talent shows and church suppers. One of their grandfathers was a Methodist minister and taught them hymns and gospel music. The other grandfather brought home old records from his juke joint, and they learned the music of Merle Haggard, the Louvin Brothers, Johhny Cash, and Ernest Tubb. These days they are writing their own songs in that same tradition. They travel all over the country and have built a loyal audience. In spite of their growing popularity, the Malpass Brothers are struggling with how to create a full-time career in music. They enjoy touring on weekends, but they still come home to their day jobs. Christopher builds transmissions for cars; Taylor works on farm equipment and trucks. HEADING HOME tells the story of the Malpass Brothers and their home community. Producers Donna Campbell and Georgann Eubanks interviewed friends, neighbors, teachers, hairdressers, fans and country stars such as Larry Black, Jimmy Capps and Rhonda Vincent. Everyone agrees: the Malpass Brothers are the real deal. But in the past year they have questioned what comes next. Should they move to Nashville? Should they stay home where they have deep family roots? Just what does it mean to be successful in the music business? Just what does it mean to make it?
