Saona Island is a beautiful island in the southeastern part of Dominican Republic considered the most popular attraction in Dominican Republic due to its clear turquoise waters and white sand beach. It is part of the Caribbean seas of East National Park which could be accessed via a short boat ride from Bayahibe, a small town 1 to 1.5 hour-drive from Punta Cana or 2-hour drive from Dominican Republic's capital city, Sto. Domingo. Day tour excursions often start with a pick-up service from Punta Cana. Boat ride to the island includes a stop midway at a waist-deep lagoon considered the largest natural swimming pool in the world and the location of Brooke Shield's film “Blue Lagoon”.
