Holmhill Farm - Felixstowe

Felixstowe Ferry, abandoned farmhouse. A rather windy flight and a somewhat desolate location from May 2022. Holmhill Farm sits lonely and forlorn in the middle of the marsh farmland just a short distance from Felixstowe Ferry. Abandoned after the 1953 floods when a combination of a high spring tide and a severe windstorm over the North Sea caused a storm tide to overwhelm much of Eastern England. The surge swept across coastal communities and the low-lying farmland, including Holmhill Farm, which was at that time known locally as Rats Hall Farm. At the time of the flood the farm was occupied by Albert Brundish and his wife. So deep was the water, they had to be rescued by boat and one can only imagine what must have been going through their minds, knowing that the salt water, would contaminate the land making it impossible for them to return and work the land. There again I guess they were just happy to escape with their lives. Sadly 41 people from the Felixstowe area did not and 2023 sees the 70th anniversary of this tragic event. The landscape we see today is radically different to the one before that awful night in January 1953. Trees and woods apparently lined the approach to the farm house, sadly so bad was the salt water contamination no trees have been planted in over 50 years. So, this was the first proper outing for my DJI Air2S, the image quality is incredible but I continue to fly too fast... so operator error, it is still an outstanding drone! The footage was taken on a very chilly May evening and while I managed to secure enough video I have kept this one deliberately short. There are only so many shots of a derelict build next to a big pile of poo you want to see... A big thank you to everyone who continue to support my channel and to those new visitors.
