IT'S HOT IN THE LOWLANDS OF THE PHILIPPINES RIGHT NOW. So I went on a mission to find the Philippines COLDEST barangay - a place called Madaymen in Kibungan, Benguet! And the vegetable farmers there speak Bisaya! From Solano in Nueva Vizcaya I ascend to Ifugao, first visiting the Kiangan Shrine where Yamashita surrendered in WW2. Then over the highest point of the Philippines highway network in Tinoc via some impossibly steep farms! My final destination is Atok, but there's another crazy climb to almost 2600m first at Mt Timbac - before descending to 2300m and the Halsema Highway! The next day I visit the Northern Blossom Flower Farm, a former vegetable farm converted to a different use - and in a stunning location! Then we climb to Madaymen and its vegetable terrace covered mountains - and I meet some farmers from Negros Oriental who I can converse with in Bisaya! What a surprise! Onwards to Mt Olis which is also covered in fog but which has some amazing strawberry jam!
