So, we bought one of the cheapest 4-bedroom houses in France. It had been abandoned for roughly 30 years and let’s just say, was only just about technically inhabitable, as it was short on virtually every modern convenience. Now, there are reasons why houses get abandoned. In fact, there are a whole host of reasons. It's not like there was a queue of people waiting to buy this property. No, no. This house clearly didn’t meet any regulations, like, ever. And when houses like this stay empty for too long, they start to require all sorts of “upgrades” that are no longer become optional. For example, the electrics. Oh, the electrics. Installed in the late 1940s. If you'd plugged anything in there would have certainly been a crackling flash of nostalgia!. But we can’t stop there – let’s talk plumbing, which, mind you, dates back to the mid-1950s. A mixture of rust and lead pipes that were more crumbly than month old bread. And don't even get me started on rest of the heating system – the unlined tumbling chimneys. Now, here’s the cherry on top: out of the four bedrooms, only ONE of them even had electrical wiring. And to make matters worse, those wires have been so hot over the years, they’ve scorched their way through the peeling wallpaper like an angry electrician on a mission. The floorboards? Oh, they’re fun. They’re not so much floorboards as they are an invitation for me to get intimate with the dirt beneath the house. Every time I step on them, it’s like a surprise trapdoor challenge. You never know which foot will go through next! And because this house is clearly a fan of drama, it’s got cluster flies. You know, the kind of flies that think "spacious" means "entire house." They swarm in through every crack and gap like they’ve been plotting their invasion for decades. No, I didn’t sign up for a house with free pest control, but here we are. Now, let's talk insulation. Ah yes, insulation, my old friend. Or rather, my absent friend. There’s about as much insulation in this house as there is in a popsicle stick. But, as with everything else here, we’ve already had massive success in some areas, and we plan to continue that streak. In conclusion, this house may be a fixer-upper, a rewarding project, or as I like to call it, an exercise in patience, but it’s ours. We’re committed to making it shine again, even if we have to start by replacing the wiring, rebuilding the chimneys, and possibly learning how to live in a constant state of decorator's overalls. #cheap houses france #4-bedroom house #french property sale #affordable homes france #buying french property #french real estate #home buying tips #regions with cheap homes #under 50k houses #family house france #property investment france #renovation projects france Song: trail Music composed and recorded by Oak Studios.
