Nature of Man is an essay taken from the Hippocratic Corpus. It is debatable whether the work was written by Hippocrates himself or his student, Polybus. In it, the four humors are explained and how these humours affect the body. It is the earliest known work to mention the theory of the four humours. This work was recorded and published for the sole purpose of studying ancient Greek medical practices, not encouraging it. This translation is by W.H.S Jones in Volume 04 of the Hippocratic Corpus published by the Harvard University Press, 1959 0:00 Chapter 1 - Introduction (Metaphysics) 1:52 Chapter 2 - Is man a unity? 4:00 Chapter 3 - Nature of unity and compositions 5:34 Chapter 4 - The Four Humours 6:47 Chapter 5 - Differences between the Humours 8:52 Chapter 6 - Man is not composed of one element 11:03 Chapter 7 - The Humours and Seasons of the Year 14:34 Chapter 8 - Rise and fall of diseases through the seasons 15:16 Chapter 9 - Cures and Treatments 18:35 Chapter 10 - Weaker and stronger parts of the body 19:07 Chapter 11 -The four pairs of lumbar veins 21:48 Chapter 12 - Temperature conditions of the body 24:14 Chapter 13 - The cause of the disease 24:32 Chapter 14 - Varieties of Urine 25:17 Chapter 15 - Varieties of Fever #ancientgreece #hippocrates #fourhumours #ancientscience #ancientcivilizations #greekhistory #choleric #phlegmatic #sanguine #melancholy
