Alan Bullard plays his fantasia on the traditional American hymn, 'Amazing Grace'. Quite possibly derived originally from a Scottish folk-tune, 'Amazing Grace' as we know it first appeared in several early nineteenth-century American hymn-tune collections, where it was often known as ‘New Britain’. This fantasia develops the melody in a classical/early romantic manner – a style appropriate to the time of its first publication. Alan Bullard lives in East Anglia, UK, and has worked for many years as a composer of music for church, college, and concert hall. His pieces, both instrumental and choral, are performed and broadcast world-wide, and are in the repertoire of a wide range of ensembles.
