#GWSR #rail200 #train The second Bank Holiday weekend in May would once again see The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway hold its flagship gala of the year, The Cotswold Festival of Steam. This year is Rail 200, and this years gala would have a Rail 200 theme with locos and displays from across the last 200 years of railways. This years event would see 11 locomotives in action with 6 visiting guests. They were Std 4 no.75069 from the Severn Valley Railway, O1 no.65 from the Bluebell Railway, Andrew Barclay Austerity no.15 'Earl David', Borrows 0-4-0WT tanks no.48 'The King' and no.3063 'Willy', and Pannier Tank no.7714 from the Severn Valley Railway. 7714 was a late replacement for BOB no.34072 '257 Squadron', who herself had earlier replaced WC no.34092 'City of Wells'. They joined home fleet 28xx no.2807, MN no.35006 'Peninsular & Oriental SN Co', 2884 no.3850, Hall no.7903 'Foremarke Hall' and Grange no.6880 'Betton Grange'. A busy timetable would be in operation across the three days featuring double heading, non stop services, local trains calling at Hayles Abbey Halt and demonstration goods trains. Alongside the trains there were plenty of other attractions. The wonderful private side of Gotherington station would be open to the public with pump trolley and wickham car rides, and the famous curry on sale. 'The King' and 'Willy' would be doing shunting demonstrations at Winchcombe and a display of 200 O guage locomotives were on display along with various model railways. Toddington would see traction engines on display and the sheds open and the narrow guage railway running. This was our first Cotswold Festival of Steam since 2022, and this year we stayed Sunday and Monday nights in Evesham Premier Inn, allowing us some time for some lineside shots on Sunday afternoon before spending the day at the gala on Monday. After hardly seeing any rain for weeks the weather for the weekend was mixed with rain showers on the Monday and across both days a very strong wind which made for challenging filming conditions to keep everything stable! Sunday afternoon was spent around Didbrook and Hayles Abbey Halt, before seeing two heavily delayed trains on the way back to the hotel at Winchcombe and Dixton. Monday we parked early at Toddington, taking the train to Gotherington where we had a lovely couple of hours in the private gardens watching the trains pass by and having a ride on the pump trolley and wickham car - spot me and my eldest son go past on the pump trolley and arrive back at the station behind the car! We then took the train back to Winchcombe to enjoy the busy goings on there before finally returning to Toddington via a run to Cheltenham and return, in time to watch the final trains of the gala. As usual my footage from the gala is edited in time of day sequence from across both days. We had a fantastic couple of days, huge thanks to all involved in the event!
