Flowering of Fairbanks 2023: Wabash Valley Herb Society

On Saturday, May 20, the singing of “On the Banks of the Wabash” and firing of the cannon will mark the beginning of the annual Flowering of Fairbanks competition. Four local organizations are participating in this year’s contest to design and execute the best flower plot underneath the arches of Fairbanks Park. The four community organizations competing in 2023 are the Honey Creek Garden Club, The Herb Society, Clinton Garden Club, and Master Gardeners and friends. “Flowering of Fairbanks is more than a fun competition that beautifies the park; it demonstrates the potential of our beloved Wabash riverfront,” RiverSCAPE Special Projects Coordinator Gerri Varner said. Funds for this year’s flowers have been provided by riverSCAPE and the Terre Haute Mayor’s Office. Each organization will be in charge of maintaining their plots, however the Terre Haute Parks Department will be aiding in watering the flowers. A special thanks goes out to RiverSCAPE President Bryan Horsman and community volunteer Jim Martin for their manual preparation for this event.
