This Core Concept video focuses on Anselm's work, the Proslogion, and examines the portion of the "single argument" (unum argumentum) that would later come to be labeled as the "ontological argument" for God's existence. This starts from a characterization of God as "that than which a greater cannot be thought" (quo maius cogitari non possit), and the distinction between being or existence in the mind (in intellectu) and in reality (in re), to argue that God must exist.
