How can I get my perennial borders to perform better and for longer?

I have struggled to get the planting right in my large herbaceous borders. I have periods where it looks great in spring and autumn but in mid summer it looks sad and uninspiring. I know from your comments that many of you are struggling with similar issues and I am not alone. For this reason, I decided we needed some expert advice and so I contacted Rosy Hardy. Rosy is an RHS Vice President and winner of 24 Chelsea gold medals and the owner/ proprietor of Hardy's Cottage Garden Plants in the UK and is just the person to help.
