The American Jazz Experience: The Structured Art of Improvisation Jazz luminaries from across Tampa, St. Pete, and Sarasota as they explore the art and technique of structured Jazz improvisation through Jazz compositions old and new. Musicians: Jamie Tremps - vocals, guitar Jack Berry - bass Chance Reynolds - percussion Eric Zabala - vibes Akiem Esdaile - guitars Ruffus Silva - keyboards, horns Jamie Tremps – vocals and guitar Blending layered harmonies, live looping, and spontaneous collaboration, Jamie crafts immersive sonic experiences that channel the vitality of nature and the spirited essence of American jazz. Rafael ’Ruffus’ Silva - multi instrumentalist Hailing from Santos, Brazil, Rafael Silva was awarded a scholarship to study at the Berklee College of Music in Boston in 2007. He has performed with illustrious American jazz players at the Blue Note Jazz Club, The Bitter End Club and the Jazz Standard in NYC. Jack Berry—bass Jack began playing the upright bass in 2013 after joining the Pine View High School Jazz Band under the direction of jazz trumpet player Victor Mongillo, where he received the prestigious Louis Armstrong Award for Jazz Excellence. Since then Jack has toured & recorded throughout the US & Canada with a variety of artists/genres, performing on CNN, and in Times Square with his sustainability edutainment band ‘The Garbage-Men’. Jack also performed at the Montréal International Jazz Festival in 2018 with Grammy nominated artist, the late Bryan Lee. Chance Reynolds—percussion Chance comes from the small beach town of Treasure Island, Florida. His early soundtrack came courtesy of his parents—primarily ’90s alternative blaring through the family car. By fourth grade, he was already immersed in percussion, joining the marching band and experimenting with FL Studio. In 2020, he launched Chaunces, a project rooted in jazz, but willing to introduce other elements of music into the mix for a truly unique sound. Akiem Esdaile—guitars Initially taught drums by his musician father, Akiem switched to the electric guitar, taking influence from such greats as George Benson and Wes Montgomery. He has traveled and performed at historic venues such as Ronnie Scott’s in his mother’s hometown of London and has composed and recorded 3 full length albums of original contemporary jazz compositions. Akiem performs throughout the region. Eric Zabala – vibrophone Eric is a multi-instrumentalist currently residing in St Petersburg, FL. Mainly a percussionist and keyboardist, his specialty is in jazz mallets, having received his Bachelors in Percussion Performance from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA. Eric currently plays vibes/keys regularly in various jazz and fusion groups around the Tampa Bay area, including Chaunces, The Barker Project, and Rod Alnord Quartet. Outside of performance, Eric maintains a busy teaching schedule. Eric also posts vibraphone content weekly on YouTube (@EricZabalaVibes) and Instagram (@zebop§bebop).
