After two years remaining out of passenger service, the Long Island Rail Road's old "M3" cars from the mid-1980s have finally returned! This video shows the very first train of M3s to run in passenger service in 2022. The last time these trains were used was in August 2020. The M3s are returning to increase the LIRR's effective fleet size to allow it to run full service when East Side Access opens later this year. The extra M3 cars will ensure that there is enough rolling stock available to run scheduled service to both Penn Station and Grand Central. Enjoy this look at a very special occasion!
