Electronically steerable antenna arrays (ESA), often called phased array antennas, are being increasingly used for radar, 5G, and satellite communications. This type of antenna allows beamsteering without mechanical movement. It can be capable of tracking multiple targets or dynamically nulling interference or intentional jamming. This is the first video of a new series where we'll walk through how these arrays work, and how you can implement them for experimenting or prototyping. I'll give some theory/background on each topic, and then do an example, with real hardware, to demonstrate how that idea works and what the programming looks like to implement it. For a great explanation of the beamforming concept, please check out Marshall Bruner's video here: • Phased Arrays - Steering and the Ante... 0:00 -- Overview 5:15 -- Beamforming Concept 8:00 -- Beamsteering Equation 10:26 -- Hardware and Operation 17:00 -- Phased Array Demo (with the GUI) 23:25 -- IIO Programming Environment 25:56 -- Python Implementation 33:36 -- Conclusion and Future Videos Please post all requests for technical support here: https://ez.analog.com/adieducation/un...
