Liechtenstein Group – World Bee Day 2022

On May 20, 2022, we celebrated World Bee Day. The importance of bees for biodiversity and food security is fundamental to humanity. 75% of global food crops depend on pollination, especially by bees. In the long-term, the protection of bees and the beekeeping sector can help reduce poverty and hunger, as well as preserve a healthy environment and biodiversity. The factors behind the mass mortality of honey bees and wild bees are complex: habitat destruction, increasing monocultures in agriculture, and pesticide use are the biggest. The Liechtenstein Group´s Wilfersdorf estate and forestry operations therefore rely on sustainable agriculture, biodiversity areas and projects, reduced amounts of fertilizer and the abandonment of certain pesticides. Organic beekeeper Stefan Mandl looks after the beehives on the Wilfersdorf Estate´s land.
