Violence against women and girls is a serious and often hidden issue affecting communities across Northern Ireland. Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG) is a seven-year programme mandated by the Northern Ireland Executive, aimed at addressing the gender-based violence, abuse and harm that are disproportionately experienced by women and girls. As part of this commitment, we have established the EVAWG Change Fund to support local prevention initiatives. Bolster Community has received funding through the Council’s EVAWG Change Fund to deliver the Layered Lives Programme. This targeted initiative supports autistic women aged 16 to 30 across the Council District, addressing a critical gap in violence against women and girls prevention for neurodivergent women and girls. Through workshops focused on awareness, empowerment and understanding gender expectations, participants have developed the skills, confidence and support networks needed to navigate relationships safely and reduce their risk of harm.
