Jik Tek kick (straight/groin kick) from Jeet Kune Do (JKD). Martial arts training. This video goes into the finer details of executing an efficient and effective Jik Tek. It is a fairly simple kick, which is great for self defense, but the devil is in the details to being quick, non-telegraphed, striking before opponent can react, to the best of your ability. Note: JKD takes advantage you’re wearing shoes on the street to use as a weapon/tool. The Jik Tek can be executed with the instep or the tip of the shoe. Using the instep offers a higher chance of hitting the target, while using the tip of the shoe concentrates the power in a smaller area. Ways to execute: From within kicking range From out of kicking range, by doing a pendulum in to a kick, to pendulum back out to end out of opponents kicking range From out of kicking range, by doing a pendulum in, and then staying in punching range From natural stance How to execute: From within kicking range Keep rear foot planted Preferably keep rear heel raised before, during, and after kick Use your lead leg to kick Be loose Lift knee and then flick leg Ensure only forward motion of leg Do not move leg as one rigid unit Do not cock leg back before kicking Do not step back with lead leg before kicking From out of kicking range (pendulum) 1 Rear leg comes forward to replace lead leg 2 Lead leg kicks 3 Lead leg comes back to replace rear leg 4 Rear leg goes back to its starting position Ensure you end up with as wide of a stance as you started Do not finish in a narrower stance than you started
