Oaking Mead, and wine, and cider for that matter. Today we save our pyment, or grape mead from too much oak. Can you use too much oak? How much oak is too much oak in a mead? Let's talk about oaking for a moment. First off, it's done to add complexity, tannins, mouthfeel, extra flavors, and color. Oaking a mead or wine will not stop fermentation, add alcohol content, reduce sweetness, or any other things that people talk about. The myths in fermentation never end!
