Here's Episode 5 of High Street Histories, the fifth in the ten-part series of illustrated conversations between Ivan Bunn and Dean Parkin. Travelling back in time to explore Lowestoft's historic High Street, Ivan and Dean share stories about the buildings and shops found there, past and present. The fifth installment looks behind the history of the only house in the High Street with a front garden and visits the premises next door, once the home to Wheatley's and advertised as the 'best general and fancy draper' where you could buy anything from 'dresses, laces, sheetings and shirtings'. All episodes of High Street Histories have an accompanying worksheet, ideal for young people age 5-11, which can be downloaded from the Poetry People or Think Lowestoft websites: www.poetrypeople.org www.thinklowestoft.co.uk Filmed, created and edited by Dean Parkin, the series features archive photographs from the collections of Ivan Bunn, Jack Rose and Bert Collyer. High Street Histories was produced in partnership with the Lowestoft Heritage Action Zones and Historic England's Heritage Schools Programme. The North Lowestoft Heritage Action Zone was funded by Historic England and East Suffolk Council and delivered in partnership with Lowestoft Town Council, Lowestoft Vision and East Suffolk Building Preservation Trust.
