Growing Our Pack String in Remote Alaska | The Final Horse Arrives

When a seasoned pack and riding horse comes up in Alaska, they go quick. We were lucky to be connected to a old packer who was retiring, and finally letting go of his last few horses. We made a last minute trip to town to go see them. These guys have crossed rivers, hauled meat and antlers, and seen more backcountry than many. We settled on a seasoned fjord-draft cross named Wyatt, and brought the big guy home. Copper has a corral buddy again! Horses are used in this modern time over Argos and ATVs for many reasons. They can get places motorized vehicles cant, haul meat, lumber and materials, plow fields (like our harness trained Haflinger boys), and are much quieter than motorized transport.
