Jackson and Gallia Counties of Ohio saw many Welsh people make the area their home in the first half of the 19th century. The Welsh shaped the culture and industry of the area which is home to the Madog Center for Welsh Studies, the Welsh Scenic Byway and the Welsh-American Heritage Museum. Originally from Llangeitho, Ceredigion, Dan Rowbotham is Director of the Madog Center for Welsh studies at the University of Rio Grande / Rio Grande Community College in Ohio. A recipient of the prestigious Gwobr Merêd award from the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol, Dan is involved with many Welsh organizations around North America.
