It puts forward (with this series of songs) the idea of neutrality or a middle way between the extremes - an angel of balance, and the realm of Purgatory/Purgatoria as a desert wasteland realm of ambivalence and neutrality, where souls wander in contemplation, sifted and made whole (individuated) through introspection, authenticity, and personal revelation, until true and honest self-knowledge is attained. Those who remain, instead of rising to The Light, or descending to The Darkness, are those who attain integrated balance, becoming twilight spirits. NOTE: As there are many archangels in heaven, many arch-devils in the hells, so in Purgatoria there are arch-neutrals-angels. Raven King is one of them. Gnosticism: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gnosticism NOTES: *Purgatory originates in the theology of Catholic/Orthodox Christian cosmology, as a place of purification, where souls are prepared/clarified to determine who truly belongs in heaven or hell (a sorting place). *Purgatoria is more like "The Spirit World" of Swedenborgian cosmology or the the Asphodel Fields of the Roman-Greek underworld... The cosmic plane of ambivalence, wastes of contemplation, where souls are sifted and find wholeness through introspection and personal revelation (apocalypse). Yet, in some sense, a realm for neutrals, the divided, the not-so-good and not-so-bad, a haven for twilight souls, and gray spirits, perhaps even nature spirits (a type of neutrality). I have often seen the extremes or polarization in spirituality as rather destructive and/or oppressive - notions of having to choose between absolutes of good and evil, selflessness versus selfishness, heaven versus hell, light versus darkness, etc. The Right Hand Path and Left Hand Path of mystical schools of thought - tend to emphasize collectivist (greater good) altruism (selflessness) juxtaposed against nihilistic (nothing matters) egotism (self-obsession). To go into "The Light" is often described as the death of ego (identity), the embrace of allness, annihilation of individuality and all things natural or sensual. To go into "The Darkness" is often put forward as an implosion into self-interest, self-obsession, nihilism, degeneracy, and grotesque aberration (debasement). Thus, I have often hungered for a third option - a middle path - of immortalization, integration, wholeness, balance, and ascension, even just attainment of permanency and continuity of being (growth as me, in constancy, up a ladder toward greater learning and achievement, evolution into a better me in eternal time).
