Chapters: Introduction 0:00 Introduction to Varanasi 1:29 From the moment we stepped off the overnight train in Agra, Varanasi unfolded in vibrant chaos—where sacred rituals and bustling life collide. We made our way to the iconic Ghats, passing the golden pinnacles of the Kashi Vishwanath Temple. At Manikarnika Ghat, a place of both solemnity and celebration, over 100 cremations take place daily—a Hindu belief holds that releasing ashes into the Ganges grants ultimate liberation. Sunrise Aarti & Ganges River Serenity 12:00 At dawn, we witnessed the mesmerizing Subah-E-Banaras Aarti—flames dancing, chants rising. Afterwards, a boat glided us along the monsoon-swollen Ganges, offering a tranquil perspective on the Ghats, including revisiting the powerful Manikarnika Ghat. Banaras Hindu University & Evening Aarti Spectacle 24:32 In the afternoon, we escaped into the peaceful campus of Banaras Hindu University (BHU), one of Asia’s largest educational sanctuaries. Street vendors tempted us with handmade treats, while the majestic New Vishwanath Temple dominated the skyline—a masterpiece of faith and architecture. As dusk fell, we returned to the Ghats for another Aarti: an electric gathering as locals and visitors sang, clapped, and reverently united. Experiencing both sunrise rituals and evening pageantry is an unforgettable contrast. Sarnath: Spiritual Echoes of the Buddha 31:47 On our final day, we journeyed to Sarnath where the Buddha delivered his first sermon. Towering stupas and archaeological marvels spoke of ancient wisdom. Diverse international Buddhist temples surrounded us, each reflecting unique traditions. With hearts full, we returned to Delhi, bidding farewell to our Intrepid group and to this chapter of North India, until next time.
