Cameron "CamTron" Weier and I gave it another run at the Storm South Sound Tour Over/Under Doubles at one of our favorite places to bowl, Strikerz at Angel of the Winds in Arlington, WA! Format was 2 regular games then everyone was seeded into a massive 38-team, double elimination bracket for Baker-style matches. This tournament is usually on at least a "Challenge" level pattern, but for whatever reason (probably to level out the field), they decided to put out a 12-1 house pattern "Easy Street" this year so we knew going in the matches would be a crapshoot. Time to bring the striking shoes! We bowled a solid and consistent 881 in qualifying on team games of 456 and 425 to earn the 5th seed and 1st round bye, but it was one of those days our opponents shot LIGHTS OUT against us every game. We shot 240 the first 2 games to barely sneak by our first two opponents who bowled really well, but got sent to the loser's bracket by Eric Miller and Jeff Helmonds who only missed once after the 3rd frame, with Cam's 2nd wrap 10 of the game in the 10th doing us in 247-227. In the win or go home match on the end pair, it was our worst nightmare in Baker Doubles as I went a perfect 5/5 on the right lane but Cam had a couple horrible breaks and a split on the left lane (including a light mixer 4 pin that carries 99% of the time at that center) and never struck until the 10th. Our opponents Michael Williams and Darrell Ray ran over us with a massive string of strikes and ended our day 246-206. We did make last cash for $320 which helped lessen the sting of going 2-and-out a bit, but after finishing 1st and 5th in two previous tries, not the outcome we hoped. Especially being the last time we'll get to bowl together for this event as my average will be likely be slightly too high next year. It's insane our opponents averaged 240 EXACTLY against us (960 for 4) while seemingly everyone else was shooting 180-220 at best on other pairs. We clearly had a target on our back and it just goes that way sometimes! Congrats to Karl Helbich and Robert Kelley for the hard fought win and thanks Randy and the Strikerz staff for a good tournament. Video shot by Bobby, edited by Tim
