Good Morning Video – Color Constancy

Inspired by the viral image of that dress, AsapSCIENCE produced a video illustrating the theory of color constancy. In it they displayed a CG image of a multi-colored cube, part of which is drawn to be in light and part of which is drawn to look like it's in shadow. Using this image, they illustrated how our perception of color value is influenced by how we perceive the context in which that color is presented. They did so by removing the parts of the image that surrounded the portions containing the color in question and in so doing, removed any indication as to which alleged examples of that color were drawn to appear as if they are in light and which were drawn to appear as if they were in shadow. I wanted to see the effect for myself so I took a screenshot of the part of the video displaying the cube and removed the parts of the image surrounding the color in question using an image editor.
