I'm super grateful to have came in 5-6th place in Round 1 and I hope with this video I am able to move on to the final round! "You are a sight for sore eyes, Mr. Cuthbert." is a line that Anne says to Matthew in the first episode (when she first meets him) and in the last episode. This quote really signifies that everything that Anne has experienced in season 1 has come full circle. "We're rich, aren't we Matthew?" I love this quote so much because Anne asked this when the Cuthberts were struggling financially. "Rich" in this case didn't mean money, it meant family and love. So yes, they were rich. Explanation for those who have not watched Anne: In spite of this show only having one season (for now hopefully), Anne grows a significant amount throughout this season. In the beginning we see that she deals with abuse and negligence because of her status as an orphan. Even so, she manages to maintain a wild imagination to help herself cope with the abuse she experiences. When she gets adopted by the Cuthberts in the beginning of the show, Anne finally starts to see what it is like to be a part of a family. However, hardships are still associated with her despite having a family now as she still experiences bullying and isolation from her school peers and even their parents. She meets her first real friend, Diana and Anne begins to see what it means to be an actual friend to someone. She also meets Gilbert, who becomes her class rival but she slowly starts to see that he has his own struggles too and feels empathetic towards him, as he does to her. Marilla and Matthew become her parent figures and they help her through her struggles as an orphan and as a girl in general, including when she gets her period for the first time. In conclusion, throughout this season Anne has gained a family, friends, and learned about love.
