This podcast explores how digital distractions affect concentration and academic performance when studying at home. The discussion is based on the "Six Minutes" idea of Larry D. Rosen (Professor Emeritus and Past Chair of the Psychology Department at California State University. The findings show that students are barely able to stay focused for more than six minutes before shifting their attention to social media or text messages. The research identifies a clear link between frequentsocial media use and lower academic results, highlighting how multitasking disrupts deep learning processes. In contrast, students who apply metacognitive strategies and consciously limit device overload are better able to remain engaged with their tasks. The authors ultimately suggest introducing structured, intentional technology breaks as a way to manage connectivity-related anxiety without undermining learning outcomes.
