Live Life DIY is about being self-reliant, self sufficient, and independent. You creating a fun, happy, lifestyle of freedom. Live Life DIY is the life you have always wanted to live, your dream lifestyle. Four tips, four ways you can begin Self-sufficient living. What are they? #selfsufficient #selfreliant Do you dream of living self-sufficient and self-reliant? You want to live a healthier lifestyle. You might be thinking of homesteading because you want to produce more than you consume. The independence and freedom a self-sufficient homestead life will provide. Are you a little afraid because you don’t think you know enough? Self-sufficient basics, where do you start? Can you really live self-sufficient? Do you need to be an expert before you can live self-sufficient and self-reliant on your homestead? Before we talk about the four tips let me share a personal story, a true story. Back in 2005 we moved aboard our sailboat ready to begin living our dream of being full-time liveaboards. Starting a new chapter, leaving the traditional world behind and living on our sailboat. The truth is, we didn’t really know anything about living on a boat. We jumped in and started. The learning curve was steep. Hurricane Katrina hit exactly two weeks after we moved aboard. There’s a saying, experience is a hard teacher. She gives the exam first and the lesson after. Thankfully, we survived because of the help of others. Years later, while we were docked in a marina, a young couple was towed into the marina. They were just starting their life aboard there now broken sailboat. The young man was frustrated and overwhelmed. The young woman was crying, feeling like a failure, and ready to give up. While Cheri shared stories of how we got started with the young woman, I went down to the engine room with the young man. I fixed the problem with the engine, to me it wasn’t a big deal. The engine was broken and I knew how to fix it. I wasn’t even thinking about what was happening. Like all good sailors, we had a few beers that evening, and the next morning the young couple were on their way, continuing their liveaboard adventure, with an upbeat positive attitude. It was a few days later when I had a facepalm, duh, reality check. We were that young couple not so long ago. Over the years, without realizing it, we had become expert liveaboards. It just kind of happened. Here’s the deal. To a fifth grader, a sixth grader is an expert. To a fifth grader, a sixth grader is an expert. If your dream is to live self-sufficient and self-reliant then do it. Go for it. Jump in with both feet. You might feel like you have no idea what you are doing. That’s okay. Learn as you go. Today you might be a homesteading fifth grader. Tomorrow you will be the expert. Tip number one, start today. Start today, where you are with what you have. Depending where you currently live, maybe a garden, maybe some chickens, maybe getting your life in order by reducing debt. Tip number two, experience is a hard teacher. She gives the exam first and the lesson after. Don’t be afraid to learn by experience. Put yourself out there and accept you will make some mistakes. Tip number three, take your time with learning new things. If you want animals, great, but don’t get chickens, rabbits, goats, horses, all at once. Get one and gain experience, then get the next one. Tip four, let other people help you. Just like we had help when we were learning, and now we help other people learning. People are willing to share their experience with people willing to learn. Have the confidence you can do it. As Mark Twain said, “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the things you did do.” Today, someone is going to begin the journey to living self-sufficient. Let it be you. The most excellent way to be supporting Rob and Live Life DIY is to LIKE & FAVORITE & THUMBS UP this video and share it with friends.
