Setting up sheep breeding groups at Ewetopia Farms today. Breeding season is a busy time on any sheep farm. In order to get sheep into appropriate breeding groups, it is important to first sort out the ewes into groups that both match and be unrelated to the ram each group is using. So today, we were moving sheep from one barn to another and sorting out ewes through the chutes that matched best with our rams. Our second breeding groups consisted of two Dorset groups and two Suffolk groups. All the breeding sheep were moved to one Coverall for easy monitoring. All our remaining rams were moved to another barn. And all the replacement ewe lambs in yet another barn. While sorting out ewes, we also pulled out a few cull ewes that were not thriving or had a specific health issue which usually was an udder issue. These were temporarily placed in with the replacement ewe lambs. After sorting, the open ewes were all put out to pasture where there were a lot of unhappy sheep due to the fact that many of them had been moved or separated from their buddies. Like people, sheep do not like change and it usually takes them a few days to adjust to new circumstances. 🛒 Be sure to check out our merch shop at Https://ewetopiafarms.myspreadshop.ca Remember to Subscribe: / @ewetopiafarms Music from Https://www.epidemicsound.com
