Calls for Improved Access to Psilocybin Ahead of MAiD Expansion

TheraPsil President & CEO Spencer Hawkswell appeared on CBC's "The Rundown" with host Andrew Nichols, to discuss the patients & healthcare professionals who were in Ottawa to advocate and lobby for medical access to psilocybin. The delegation met with MPs from all parties to educate and inform on the safety and efficacy of psilocybin to treat mental health conditions, such as palliative depression, addiction, PTSD and chronic disease. They also requested a meeting with the Ministers of Health, Jean-Yves Duclos & Carolyn Bennett, but were denied. The delegation also focused on the expansion of MAiD in March 2023, as Canadians with a mental health condition as the sole underlying cause will be able to apply for medical assistance in dying. Patients should have reasonable access psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy and current avenues to access do not provide it.
