Through the https://tinyurl.com/tkrffk3k eyes of faith, https://tinyurl.com/my9atap9 the Church believes https://tinyurl.com/y5axuuv2 that each individual is protected and guided by a guardian angel. The presence of angels can be found throughout scripture. The names of three angels are specifically mentioned in the Bible because of their crucial duties in carrying out God's plan. They are known as ‘archangels’—Sts Michael, Raphael, and Gabriel. St Michael is a powerful protector who guards us from Satan and the forces of evil. Michael means ‘One who is like God’. The birth of Jesus was heralded by angel Gabriel. Angel Raphael is the central figure in the apocryphal Book of Tobit. In Tobit, Raphael is sent to help Tobit and Tobit’s son, Tobias. Raphael, means ‘remedy of God’. St Gabriel, whose name means ‘strength of God’, announced to Mary that she had been chosen as the Mother of the Saviour (Lk 1:26-38). Catechism of the Catholic Church states “From the beginning until death, human life is surrounded by their watchful care and intercession. Beside each believer stands an angel as protector and shepherd leading him to life. Already here on earth the Christian life shares by faith in the blessed company of angels and men united in God.” Angels have been present since the beginning of creation and throughout the history of salvation, announcing salvation from afar or close by and serving the accomplishment of the divine plan. St Augustine says: "'Angel' is the name of their office, not of their nature. If you seek the name of their nature, it is 'spirit'; if you seek the name of their office, it is 'angel': from what they are, 'spirit', from what they do, 'angel’”. With their whole beings the angels are servants and messengers of God. Because they "always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven" they are the "mighty ones who do his word, hearkening to the voice of his word" Pope Leo XIII (1903) had a prophetic vision of the future century of grief and war near the end of the nineteenth century. In this vision, God handed Satan one hundred years to carry out his darkest deeds. This century was chosen by the devil. The Holy Father was so impressed by this vision that he wrote the following prayer to St Michael the Archangel: “St Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle! Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who roam about the world seeking the ruin of souls.” Most of us at an early age learned the little prayer to our guardian angel: “Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God’s love commits me here. Ever this day be at my side, to light, to guard, to rule, to guide.” On September 29, the church commemorates the Feasts of the Archangels, and on October 2, the Feasts of the Guardian Angels.
