The long version of this video documents the remarkable transformation of a once-outdated hospital building into Ethiopia’s first Pediatric Neurosurgery Center of Excellence. Over the course of just one year, a visionary partnership brought this state-of-the-art facility to life—equipped to provide lifesaving surgeries for children with spina bifida, hydrocephalus, and other complex neurological conditions. Why It Matters: In a country where access to pediatric neurosurgical care has been limited, the Zewditu Center represents a groundbreaking step forward. With modern operating theaters, a dedicated ICU, diagnostic imaging like CT scanning, and space for multidisciplinary aftercare, this center is designed not only to treat—but to heal, train, and lead. The Role of ReachAnother Foundation: ReachAnother played a central role in the vision, funding, and execution of this project. From securing essential grants to guiding the planning process, RAF ensured that the renovation would serve both immediate patient needs and long-term system change. This project reflects our mission: to prevent and treat neural tube defects in Ethiopia so every child has the chance to grow and thrive. Looking Ahead: The Zewditu Center is more than a building—it’s a national hub for training the next generation of Ethiopian pediatric neurosurgeons, a model for future Centers of Excellence, and a beacon of hope for families across the country and region.
