What if inclusion in education is just an illusion? In this powerful talk, a neurodiverse educator challenges the system that claims to embrace inclusion — yet excludes neurodiverse educators. Drawing on personal experience and urgent global data, the speaker argues that true inclusion must include everyone — especially those shaping our classrooms. They argue that it is time to drop the mask — and make inclusion real. Shona O’Callaghan is an internationally recognised educator, consultant, and advocate for inclusive education, with nearly 20 years of experience teaching and training across Europe, the UAE, and beyond. She holds a Master’s degree in Education specialising in multilingual learning and is a certified Dyslexia and Literacy Specialist with ATS status. As the founder of Empowering Creative Minds (ECM), Shona leads a consultancy dedicated to inclusive education, focusing on linguistic accessibility, diverse educational needs, and the well-being of both teachers and learners. Her expertise includes leading English departments, lecturing at university level, mentoring trainee teachers, and successfully overseeing private British school inspections with her team. Shona has shared her insights widely, appearing on numerous podcasts and radio shows to discuss inclusive education and well-being for teachers and learners. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
