With its win over Mercer to go 6-1 on the year, the Army West Point football team was offered and quickly accepted invitation to play in the 45th Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl to be played December 26th in Shreveport, LA and broadcast nationally on an ESPN network. Mr. Auer describes his trip to West Point to offer the invitation to the game, the history of the Bowl which is the 11th oldest being played, the support for the event from the community and sponsors, the US Army base in the state at Fort Polk where many soldiers have received final training before deployments, the gameday experience and spectator opportunity at Independence Stadium which stands now at 12,500 about 25% of the stadium capacity. Mr. Auer comments on how he got involved in college football from time at Louisiana Tech and LSU being asked to take on a role on the host committee and then moving up the ladder to event chairman.
